Reseña profesional
Lovely aromatic perfumed quality. A cherry and blackcurrant jam nose overlaid with violets. Undertone of molasses and woodsmoke. Firm Vargellas with chocolate covered cherry and blackcurrant centre. Soft lingering finish, with youthful fresh notes.
he 1998 Vargellas is a super buy on many levels. It’s ready to drink, you could still add it to your cellar for depth in the port collection or it could be bought to mark an upcoming 20th anniversary in 2018. Not a perfect year in Oporto hence its single quinta designation but the trick is to select the best lots in this case from the single quinta (vineyard) planted to a majority of old vines. The nose is a mix of earthy, black licorice, tea, black cherry jam, molasses and nutty, dried fig, savory herb aromas. The attack is mature and round with dry black cherry, prune plum flavours flecked with walnuts, cedar and coffee flavours. Good finesse with fine tannin structure. Drink with a great piece of cheese or hold if you have the patience.
