In 2019, the precipitation was not only low in the winter months but extended throughout the year. However, the Douro and, in the case of Niepoort, the Cima Corgo sub-region, were fortunate due to two compensating factors: firstly, the summer months were unusually cool, and secondly, the timely rainfall on August 26 and 27, along with some very limited rain in the third week of September, proved invaluable. As a result, the analysis of the musts was very balanced, with high acidity levels, providing freshness and magnificent elegance. At the Vale de Mendiz winery, the harvest began on September 2 under favorable conditions, and the last grapes were received in the first week of October. The LBV is bottled in the fourth year, maintaining Niepoort’s tradition of prioritizing freshness in the wines.
