La Louvière is a wine producer located in Bordeaux in Pessac-Léognan. The estate dates back to the 14th Century and has changed ownership multiple times throughout its history. In 1965, the château was purchased by its current owners, the Lurton family, and was entirely restored. The estate produces red and white Bordeaux as well as wines for the second label, L de La Louvière.
The château’s vineyards cover 61.5 hectares (152 acres) planted to red and white varieties. White grape varieties include Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon planed to 13.5 hectares (33 acres) of the estate, while red varieties compose 48 hectares (119 acres) of the property and include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vines average 25 years old and are planted to gravel soils with limestone deposits.
Production is around 12,000 cases annually for the red Bordeaux blend and some 4000 cases per year for the white Bordeaux.
Red and white Bordeaux are produced for the second label. The red is composed of 70 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 percent Merlot and the white is 100-percent Sauvignon Blanc. The château further produces a sweet wine, Les Lions de La Louvière, in exceptional vintages where noble rot, or botrytis, is able to develop.
