Pale brick in color, the 1979 Figeac opens with a flamboyant exotic spice nose, leading to notions of sandalwood, cigar box, leather, and smoked meats, plus touches of dried Provence herbs, pencil lead, and dried cherries. The light to medium-bodied palate is lively and refreshing with loads of earth and mineral-inspired sparks and powdery tannins, finishing with a peppery kick. What it lacks in intensity and polish, this beautiful glass makes up for in stamina and expression.
