Reseña profesional
The mediocre 1965 vintage in Sauternes explains why this Yquem has never been considered a great wine. But this bottle was wonderful. While not very intense, it offered apricot cake, orange notes and a creamy, medium-bodied palate
The 1965 Château d`Yquem shows a deep amber colour with golden hues due to its age. The aromas are beautifully complex and evolved, revealing notes of dried apricots, candied orange peel, honey, saffron and toasted nuts. There are also hints of caramel and toffee, as well as a touch of earthy, mushroom-like character that can develop in aged Sauternes. On the palate, the wine is rich and luscious, with a balanced acidity that prevents it from being overly cloying. The finish is long and persistent, with lingering flavours of dried fruit and spice. The wine would pair perfectly with rich desserts like crème brûlée or tarte Tatin, as well as foie gras or blue cheese.
