Reseña profesional
Le Clos du Roi is a highly-regarded climat of the Corton Grand Cru appellation in the Cote de Beaune district of Burgundy. This walled site – roughly translated its name means “the walled vineyard of the king” – is located high on the eastern slopes of the Montagne de Corton hill. Wines from the Clos du Roi are almost exclusively from Pinot Noir and a number of top Burgundy producers have plots here.
The vineyard, which covers just over 10.7 hectares (26 acres) in the very center of the southeast-facing side of the Corton hill, is characterized by pebbly, potassium-rich marlstone soils with a reddish tinge from the ferruginous (iron) oolite seam on the midslope. This area of the hill is generally viewed as better-suited to Pinot Noir than the Chardonnay more commonly planted on the western side.
